Skincare Diary: Part 2
So the product I'll be talking about today is The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%. This is a serum which is targeted at spot prone and oily skin. It's meant to help fade acne scars, reduce oil/sebum production and even out skin tone. It also helps with improving texture and signs of aging. I bought this serum as I'd heard a lot of good reviews on YouTube where people were raving about all of niacinamide's amazing properties, especially for oily/acne prone skin. It also claims to be good for sensitive skin, so I hoped it would work for mine as well! I also wanted to see if it lived up to the hype, so I ordered it from Amazon and a week later it arrived in the post and I couldn't wait to try it for myself! :) Here is my 7 day diary recording my personal thoughts and opinions on the product...
Day 1
AM- This serum arrived yesterday, however I still have some of my Witch Overnight Clearing Serum left, so going to use it in the morning until that runs out. Then I will use it in the AM and PM daily. When I first applied the serum it had a lovely thick, liquidy texture and absorbed really easily into my skin. I liked how well it glided over my face and that I only needed a few drops. After applying my skin felt smooth and wasn't irritated at all.
Day 2
AM- Bumps on chin from the Simple Daily Skin Detox cleanser felt a lot smoother and my spot is starting to flatten and heal. I haven't had a reaction to the serum so far and love that it's fragrance free as well as the simple ingredients list (niacinamide and zinc). It really does what it says on the tin!
Day 3
AM- It turns out that 2 drops is enough as it's very spreadable and a little goes a long way. I love how quickly it sinks into the skin and how it doesn't feel sticky at all. It just makes it feel super smooth! It's a really lovely product to use :) Once I've finished my Overnight Clearing Serum I'll use it in the PM as well.
Day 4
AM- My skin feels so smooth after applying and I feel like it genuinely helps my moisturiser to sink in better :) When I finished my morning skincare routine my skin felt baby soft! I'm really enjoying using this serum. A little bump did appear but could be because I'm now using my Garnier Micellar Cleansing Gel Wash which doesn't cleanse as deeply as my Garnier Anti-Blackhead Charcoal Gel. However it should be arriving in the post very soon!
Day 5
AM- Spot is a little bigger but I feel like my skin tone is more even than it was a few days ago. Combined with my charcoal cleanser it really feels like my skin is getting what it needs. After the disappointment of the Simple Daily Skin Detox cleanser, my skin is finally getting back on track :) I going to use the serum for 2 more days to see if it's really making a difference to my skin. If it is then I'm going to start using it in the PM as well.
Day 6
AM- Skin is looking clearer and smoother. Spot seems to have turned into a whitehead. Also my spot from a week ago is flattening and starting to fade. I think if I used the serum in the PM as well I'd see faster results. I think I have about 2-3 days worth of Overnight Clearing Serum left, so will increase the use of the niacinamide serum once it's finished. I love how smooth my skin feels after I've let it absorb :)
Day 7
AM- Skin is looking fresh and even and the spot has calmed down abit, although it's probably to do with the multimasking I did last night (The Body Shop Seaweed Oil Balancing Clay Mask and L'Oreal Pure Clay Blemish Rescue Mask). I think once I start using the serum at night I'll see more noticeable results. Have really enjoyed this serum and how effortlessly I've been able to incorporate it into my routine without any irritation to my skin.
Overall thoughts: I had high hopes for this product and it definitely didn't disappoint! I loved the consistency and how easily it absorbed into my skin within seconds of applying. I also liked how soft and smooth my skin felt after applying my moisturiser on top. I think it's helped with fading my acne scars and has smoothed out the texture on my chin. I think once I start using it at night as well, I will get even more benefits! I never thought I'd find anything to replace my Witch Overnight Clearing Serum but I feel like this product may just be it :) I used to swear by that overnight serum, but I think sometimes a change is good for the skin, especially if it has more noticeable results. Rating: 8/10
I hope you've enjoyed reading my skincare diary on The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% and that it's encouraged you to try products from the brand yourself. This product surpassed all my expectations and is now apart of my updated skincare routine... until something better comes along, of course ;) The next product I'll be trialling is the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel, which could be potentially replacing my Simple Hydrating Light Moisturiser, so watch this space!!!
Until next time...
