Skincare Routine 2019!
So I know it's been awhile and that things got pretty quiet after my last blog. Which basically means that I ran out of ideas haha. Now though I'm back with a new and updated skincare routine to share with you guys! Yay!!
I've been watching a lot of YouTube videos on skincare recently, hoping that it would give me some inspiration. I started off with the one below and it turns out that I've been missing out a few crucial steps in my routine *gasp* So the very next day I was in Superdrug browsing the skincare aisle for new and exciting products to try. I came back with 6 products and spent about £15 in total, which isn't too bad considering that they were all £4 or under.
Turned out I haven't been exfoliating enough and wasn't washing my face at night. A lot of the videos showed girls using these spinny brush things to wash their face with. And there I was not even washing my face at night! When you think about it it's pretty gross that I wasn't properly cleansing my face. Instead I just took off my makeup and then used Deep Cleansing lotion to remove the rest of the oil and dirt residue. So obviously I had to pick up an exfoliating wash for nighttime (more on that later). I also saw that they were using serum after their toner to improve skin elasticity and protect it from environmental damage, such as free radicals. They were also using eye cream to prevent wrinkles and reduce puffiness. I used to use a Simple eye roll on but it never seemed to help so I gave up using it and didn't give my eye area a second thought. Now I realise how important it is to look after the delicate skin around your eyes, so I've invested in an eye balm as well. The last step that I was missing was a hydrating face mist. This is meant to keep the skin hydrated, even after applying makeup, and protects against "daily aggressions" such as UV rays, pollution and oxidation.
Here I give you a sneak peek into my new and improved skincare routine :) You'll notice a few products from my old routine that are a must-have and that I keep repurchasing. I do have a couple of new products that I haven't started to use yet, but I thought I'd stick to the ones I'm currently using.
So let's get started...
MORNING ROUTINE:
Step 1- First I wash my face with my Garnier Pure Active Intensive Daily Gel Wash, using my hands to lather the gel on my face. I then wash it off with warm water and pat my face dry with a towel. My skin feels super soft afterwards!
Step 2- Next I get a cotton pad and apply a few drops of my Sebamed Clear Face Facial Toner before sweeping it over my face and neck. I love how quickly it drys and it leaves my skin feeling firm and plump.
Step 3- Using my trusty Witch Blemish Stick, I rub it over any blemishes or places where I can feel a spot forming. This tends to calm the redness and, over time, will help the breakouts/marks to fade.
Step 4- I then use my new Vitamin E Moisture Boost Facial Serum and dispense 3 pumps into my hand then massage gently into my face. I love the scent and how silky smooth my skin feels after applying.
Step 5- The next product I use is my new Simple Soothing Eye Balm which I dot under my eyes and pat until absorbed with my ring finger. Apparently the ring finger is the perfect pressure as it's a very delicate area.
Step 6- Once the serum and eye balm have been absorbed I then apply my Clean & Clear Dual Action Moisturiser. I have tried a few different moisturisers but the only one that doesn't leave my skin feeling greasy is this one. I also like it because it's meant to be a barrier against spots, as well as not clogging the pores.
Step 7- Finally I get my Garnier Moisture Bomb Multi-Protecting Hydrating Mist and spray it onto my face with my eyes closed and lips pinched together. I like that it's a fine, light mist which dries quickly and doesn't leave a sticky residue.
NIGHT ROUTINE:
Step 1- First I get my Garnier Pure Active Micellar Cleansing Water and pour it onto a cotton pad. I then wipe it gently over my eye then repeat on the other side until most of my mascara is off. I like how gentle it is, however it's not very effective at removing all of my eye makeup. I do like that it's specially formulated for oily skin though.
Step 2- To remove the rest of my makeup I get a B. Pure Sensitive Micellar Cleansing Wipe and apply it to my face, eyes and neck. This gets all the traces of mascara off however it only removes makeup on the surface of the skin, so I need to cleanse a bit deeper...
Step 3- I then get my Clean & Clear Deep Cleansing Lotion and dispense a small amount onto a cotton pad which I wipe over my face, neck and behind my ears. The best thing is that when you look at the pad you can see that it's removed all the traces of dirt and makeup left on the skin. This is a product that I have used for a few years now as it is great at cleansing deep down in the pores.
Step 4- I then do what is known on YouTube as a "double cleanse" where I get my new Garnier Pure Active Intensive Daily Exfoliating Wash and massage the cream into my face before washing it off with warm water. I don't really like the formulation as it is blue and not very thick. To begin with I didn't notice that my skin felt particularly soft but after a few days of using it my skin is feeling a lot smoother afterwards.
Step 5- Next I apply my Simple Smoothing Eye Balm again and as before I pat it into my skin until absorbed.
Step 6- Afterwards I use a small blob of Witch Overnight Clearing Serum and smooth it all over my face and neck. I love this product and have been using it for the past year or so. My old one went out of stock so I started buying this instead, although it's a bit pricier. However, I've found it to be really effective when it comes to calming my spots and helping them fade. It's not an instant result but after a few days the spot is noticeably reduced.
Step 7- The last thing I do before going to bed is apply my Clean & Clear Dual Action Moisturiser.
That concludes my daily skincare routine! It's a lot more thorough but I think my skin is getting a lot more moisture and TLC. Especially when it comes to preventing environmental damage and keeping it more radiant and youthful. I'm going to maintain it until the end of the week then write a second post discussing my findings. I will also be assessing the overall condition of my skin as a result of the new routine. So watch this space! ;)
I hope you've enjoyed learning about my routine and the products I use. I will try and keep you updated on all the new products I try this year and report back with my reviews on them!
